Ladies and gentlemen, if you haven’t heard of him already, I bring to you the heartthrob, reason of sleepless nights of many, hands down one of the sexiest man in Indian film industry, Milind Soman. Women want him, men want to be like him, and his escapades have kept fitness gurus in awe since, like forever.

Soman is 51 in records and ageless in reality. He is the guy who completed the Ironman triathlon in 15 hours and that too barefoot. FYI it includes a 3.8-km swim, a 180.2-km cycle ride, and 42.2-km run raced in that order without a break. And his records don’t end there. He finished a 518 km race in 34 hours and bagged the title of ‘Ultraman’.

But this beauty cloak, he so persistently adheres to has few secrets. And he is generous enough to flaunt them with utmost pride to this world. And guys we can never be more grateful for this.

So here come the fitness secrets from the fitness epitome itself.

He is Indian Forrest Gump

In an interview, he was quoted saying that he always wanted to run, and when in 2003 he went for treadmill running, he was disappointed to a great extent. That’s when he started running outdoors. And there was no looking back since then. he started with Mumbai half-marathon and finished within hours. Talk about motivation huh!!, he went on to participate in numerous marathons after that. Running became his hobby, passion, and habit. He runs almost 3-4 times a week.

His diet

When asked about his diet, he has often stated that he prefers vegetarian and natural food over chemically processed. He says he always goes for vegetables with peels and skins on and prefers unpolished grains and millets. He avoids refined sugar in any form, it has to be made of jaggery or honey for him. Giving up chocolates and smoking was a challenge even for him, but he says once you reduce the sugar intake, you will be able to appreciate the natural sweetness of ingredients. Other than this he emphasizes on being hydrated all the time, else it can have ramifications on your health. For some people, it might be weird but he has been known to indulge in taking insects for his proteins intake. So if Bear Grylls from man vs wild ever gave you thrills, think no more, this world is your storage.

No gym? Say what.

For a guy who owns two extravagant gyms in Delhi and Bombay, he surely lives in a world of contradictions. He always says that gyms have never worked for him. While gym routines always focus on different body parts in isolation, you cannot attain health and fitness in a holistic sense from within 4 walls. It’s his active and busy lifestyle which keeps him on the edge and he only strives for more. He is into more than one type of sports, be it running, swimming, cycling or anything else, he has always maintained an athletic body to keep it pumping.

His routine

One thing that he does best is value his sleep in this world of speed. He sleeps before 11 and believes in waking up early before 5. Early to bed and early to rise- hardly a magic advice, but how many of us follow it?

But amazingly he states, that other than all this he hardly does anything for his fitness. There was a time in his career when he didn’t proactively indulge in any physical activity and still maintained his weight to a constant for more than 10 years. He credits all this to his active lifestyle and healthy eating habits. There is no magic trick he repeats.

His motivation

We all started from zero, didn’t we?

There was a time in his career when he used to smoke more than 20 cigarettes in a day. At the age of 41, when most of us turn ignorant, he decided to quit. It took him almost three hours to do the same, and there was no looking back since then.

There is no magic mantra for you to get fit. You just have to keep striving and keep feeding yourself the right thing. You need no heavy routines and expensive gym memberships, just make fitness part of your lifestyle and you are already halfway through. He profusely advises that eating healthy is only the first step, you just need to back it up with exercising to keep it all working.

And if you think he is the only one who is giving fitness goals to the world, you need to know about the mine he came out from. His mother, Usha Soman, a 78-year-old charming lady have been trekking regularly since last 15 years. In fact, along with her son she makes sure that she goes for at least one trek every month. In an Instagram video which Soman shared through his account on mother’s day, she was seen to be doing planks for whole 90 seconds. A gentle reminder reader, at the age of 78!!

She also accompanied him for the multi-city Ultraman marathon and ran barefoot, and that too with a saree on. If this is not inspiring, I don’t know what would be!!
